On August 23, Day of the State Flag of Ukraine, eight musically inclined Access (English Access Microscholarship Program) alumni from Dnipro, Sumy, Odesa and Mariupol, met with the Music Band of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe which performed in Kyiv’s Taras Shevchenko Park as a part of its program dedicated to Ukraine’s 30th anniversary of independence. The alumni’s visit was facilitated in coordination with RELO within the 2018 – 2021 Access Ukraine programing. The participating Access alumni spoke about their experience in the Access programs, their musical interests and other hobbies, and future education and careers plans. The USAF musicians shared about their professional experience, interests, and impressions from performing in Ukraine. The alumni also had an opportunity to exchange on their experience of participation in the U.S. Embassy educational initiatives with Charles Blake, U.S. Embassy Kyiv’s Deputy Press Attaché. For some participating alumni, this was the first ever travel to the capital of Ukraine, and they said it gave them most bright and memorable impressions.
